About the Art

A path of self-cultivation

Ki Aikido uses proven exercises to develop coordination of mind and body. Through regular practice, students learn to maintain calmness under pressure and respond to challenges with composure rather than force.

Aikido can be practised by anyone, regardless of size, age, or strength, using dynamic blending movements that redirect energy rather than oppose it.

What Our Members Say

Stories from the mat

Fit and healthy, even into my 70s

I started Aikido in my late twenties and have been practising for over 40 years. It has kept me physically active and mentally sharp. I still remember the first Ki demonstration I saw — it completely changed how I understood strength.

Wayne Harris

From white belt to white belt

I first became interested in martial arts back in 1976. My brother persuaded me to try Ki Aikido, and I've never looked back. Every class teaches me something new about myself.

Chris Dolling

Back on the mat

I first encountered Aikido in the mid-1980s while I was working as an au pair in Tokyo. Years later I returned to the mat, and the principles I learned have helped me in every aspect of daily life.

Hannah Kent

The principles help me manage stress

I joined in October 2021 and it has been transformative. My whole family now practises together. The breathing and relaxation techniques are things I use outside the dojo every day.

Our Heritage

Developing Aikido since the 1950s

The leadership of the Ki Federation of Great Britain has been supporting Aikido development for over seven decades. We recognise the value of Aikido in daily life and believe it will benefit others too.

Across the federation, we have a network of clubs and teachers committed to helping others learn this art. Join friendly classes taught across Great Britain, Canada, France, and the Netherlands. We are one of the largest and oldest Aikido organisations in the UK.

“The real purpose of the martial arts must be to purge oneself of petty ambitions and desire, to obtain control of one’s own character.”
